Top Tip - Dogs are Lifelong Learners

Just like us, dogs are lifelong learners, and learning and developing/perfecting behaviours provides benefits to a dog's brain and body, no matter what their age.

What are the behaviours you really want your dog to master (walking nicely on lead, fetch, etc)? Prioritise those, and then add in some just for laughs - roll-over, commando crawl, jump through a hoop - the possibilities are endless.

Importantly, make training fun for your dog and for you! No-one willingly does anything in their free-time if it's a grind.  Try starting your training time with a game and end it with a game or a trick that you both enjoy.

Mistakes are an important part of learning, but if you're feeling frustrated or bored, good chance your dog is feeling the same; wind up the training session and come back to it when you're in a positive, upbeat frame of mind.

Her work is thought-provoking and useful.  You don't need a scientific background to find Karolina's work interesting, you just need a non-human animal in your life :-)

Right now she's inviting people to sign-up for a free four-part video series, called Emotions, Learning and Animal Training, via her website
