When we first brought our Luna home, we were so happy! We had planned for her arrival and were expecting lots of enjoyable walks. We were prepared for the normal puppy behaviour, chewing and digging and thought that as an active family we could manage this!

Luna was six months when we got her. After a couple of days we saw some really unusual things, she was barking and growling at strangers and was very nervous on our walks. We were so unsure what to do and quickly came to realise that things were not going to be how we planned.

I was fortunate enough to stumble across Ruth Weston after a 'google search' and I quickly called Ruth and explained our situation. Ruth was incredibly generous in that first call and gave me some tips that we still use everyday. We booked some time with Ruth and looking back I cant believe how lucky we were. Knowing what we know now I cant imagine what life would have been like with Luna had we not received such helpful advice.

We started with basic obedience training and this helped as a family to develop a really strong bond with Luna when she was having a really tough time. At this stage she was growling and barking at most people we passed on walks and wouldn't let anyone (even Ruth) approach her for a pat. Ruth let us know that training would give Luna confidence and help her in situations where she was afraid. We couldn't believe how easy it was to train Luna (or in our case us) based on Ruth's methods. Luna would pick things up really quickly and we practiced at home and were so pleased with the progress she was making but we hadn't yet seen many changes with her behaviour around people. We persisted and were lucky enough to enrol Luna in a group training session with Ruth.

Luna has been attending group sessions which are so helpful and social. We've come to realise through Ruth's advice how important dog's spending time with dogs is and that socialisation is the key to having a happy dog. Slowly with the confidence from group training we have exposed Luna to more and more different situations with positive reinforcement. Luna is getting so much more confident and this morning on our walk she received lots of happy pats and was so easy to walk!

I am so incredibly grateful for the information and methods Ruth shared with us. Every time I see someone with a dog on a walk and we chat about their dog I tell them 'you have to see Ruth!' or I'm giving Ruth's book to my friends. Luna is not the dog that we were expecting but we now feel confident that we know what to do and she's now so much happier and easier.

My daughter and I recently took our dogs to Ruth at the Gentle Modern School of Dog Training as we were having issues putting the 3 dogs together and had limited time to solve it. I was in awe of Ruth's knowledge and skills. My dog Princess responded to her immediately and she taught me how to understand and interact with her better. Her instructions were clear and she explained how my dog learnt and why things were getting confused between us. Ruth’s premises for dog training are perfect and thanks to her, i was able to have a relaxing week while my daughter was able to put all 3 dogs together successfully, We will both be continuing our lessons now and i highly recommend Ruth and the school to anyone who wants to have a great relationship with their furbabies.
