Translating your dog's age to the human equivalent
NPR recently reported on research that involved a new approach to calculating a dog's age in human terms: " . . . compared with humans, dogs age very quickly at first, but then their aging slows down, a lot.  . . .  Using a dog age calculator based on the research, a 2-year-old dog is about 42 in human years. But a dog twice as old, 4 years, is roughly equivalent to a 53-year-old human. Double it again and an 8-year-old dog is only 64 in human age."

Top Tips

A food puzzle toy doesn't have to be expensive or even come from a shop.  Kelly McFarlane, a NZ Behavioural Consultant, suggest placing treats in the compartments of a muffin baking tray and then covering each compartment with a tennis ball.  In the photos below I've used balls made from rolled up socks. (If your dog is likely to chew up and possibly ingest the socks, please supervise their use of such a puzzle toy.)

It can be a struggle to get a good photo of a pet.  If you find it tricky, you might like to check out '6 Tips for Taking Paw-fessional Photos of your Pets' from the online photo/photo gift company, Snapfish.
